Standard Form of Numbers

The standard form or short form of a number is given by combining the face value of each digit at the correct place.

A three digit number consists of three digit. For example

The standard form of 200 + 30 + 4 is 234.

The place value of the digits are

For 200 the place value is 2 x 100  or 2 hundreds so 2 is placed at the hundreds position

For 30 the place value is 3 x 10  or 3 tens so 3 is placed at the tens position

For 4 the place value is 4 x 1  or 4 ones so 4 is placed at the ones position.

Hence

234  is three digit number where 2 is at hundreds place, 3 is at tens place and 4 is at ones.

Similarly the standard form  700 + 20 + 8 = 728.

Solution:

The expanded form of 400 + 50 + 9.

The place value of the digits are

For 400 the place value is 4 x 100  or 4 hundreds so it is placed at the hundreds position

For 50 the place value is 5 x 10  or 5 tens so it is placed at the tens position

For 9 the place value is  9 x 1  or 9 ones so it is placed at the ones position.

Hence in step 1 we get 400

459  is three digit number where 4 is at hundreds place, 5 is at tens place and 9 is at ones.

Hence the correct option is A
